Tampa Bay Snook Fishing

Snook Fishing

The west central coast of Florida has outstanding Snook fishing. Snook like warm water and most years our water temperature allows us to sight fish them in shallow water all year. During the winter months if the water temperature falls below 60 degrees the Snook will move to deeper water or far up creeks where the water temperature is warmer. When this happens you will find large schools of fish in some pretty small areas. In the spring time as the water temperature starts to climb and the bait becomes more prevalent the Snook move to the grass flats and feed aggressively. As summer comes the Snook move to the passes, sand shore lines and the gulf beaches to spawn. This is a great time to fish for Snook. You can easily see the fish and they feed well on certain tides. The fish respond well to flies, artificial lures and live bait. In the fall the Snook migrate back to the flats to feed before the cooler weather of the winter.

Another fun way to fish for Snook is at night under dock and bridge lights. Snook like to sit in the shadow lines around the lighted structure and ambush pray. Several times a night you ease up to a dock to watch in excitement as you see bait fish fly into the air trying to escape active snook. This is a great way for a beginner fly fisherman to catch really big snook.
